Norman Yadkinville – Bernice Gentry Norman, 98, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. She was born August 2, 1919 in Yadkin County to the late William Miles Gentry and Leona Pendry Gentry. Bernice married Ray Norman of Thurmond, NC on June 18, 1966 and attended White Rock Methodist Church. She worked at Chatham Manufacturing Company in Elkin for 32 years and retired September 1, 1974. While living in Thurmond, they had a cattle farm and then they moved to Yadkinville in 1979 and attended Center United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray Norman, that passed away in 2000 and they had a wonderful marriage; sisters, Iva Helton, Margaret Williams, Ruth Gentry; brothers, Lester Gentry, Frank Gentry, and George Gentry. Surviving is her sister, Wilma Casstevens of Hartsville, SC; several nieces and nephews that she loved and enjoyed; and other family members. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville by the Rev. Keith Howell and the Rev. John Taylor. Burial will follow at White Oak Cemetery in Thurmond, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to SECU Hospice Care Center, 243 North Lee Avenue, Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family would like to thank her long-time caregiver, Ellen Ratledge for the loving care given to her over the years, and also a special thank you to her other caregivers and the SECU Hospice Care Center for their excellent care.
