YADKINVILLE- Mrs. Betty Hoots Driver, 83, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at the SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin. She was born September 21, 1937 in Yadkin County to the late Joe and Jettie Gough Hoots. Mrs. Driver was a graduate and the Salutatorian of the Class of 1955 at Courtney High School. She was retired from G.M.A.C. / Integon with over 45 years of service. Mrs. Driver was elected and served as the first female Yadkinville Town Commissioner in the 1970’s, and again from 2003 thru 2017. She also served with the Advisory Board of SunTrust Bank in Yadkinville, attended classes with Surry Community College, and worked part-time at the Yadkin Family Y.M.C.A. Mrs. Driver was a member of Harmony Grove Friends Meeting where she had served the church as an Elder and Choir Director. She was an avid walker, loved nature’s beauty, and used the outdoors as her therapy. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, James D. Driver; her brother, Lawrence Hoots; her sister, Margie H. Ratledge; an infant sister; nieces, Diane Linville and Jackie Driver Edwards; and her beloved Siamese Cat, George. Surviving are her 3 nephews, Melvin Hoots, Jason Driver, Michael Driver; 2 nieces, Tammy Reavis, Cindi Stewart; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and special loving friends. There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Driver 2:30 PM Sunday in the Amphitheater of Yadkinville Town Park by Rev. Mark Brown and Marty Driver. Mrs. Driver will be available for public viewing at the Park on Sunday from 2:00 to 2:30 PM before the service. A private graveside service will be at Harmony Grove Friends Church Cemetery by Rev. Nelson Spaulding and Rev. Mark Brown. Due to the current COVID environment, it will be mandatory for all attendants to wear a mask while attending the service. The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Trinity Elms Assisted Living and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for their exceptional care and support, and to the Town of Yadkinville and Yadkinville Police Department for their willingness and assistance to help with this Celebration for the life of Betty H. Driver.
