Betty Doss Hege

Mrs. Betty Jane Doss Hege, 80, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Woltz Hospice Home.  Betty was born December 5, 1942 in Stokes County to George Lloyd Doss and Rachel Opal Landreth Doss.  As she grew up she met the love of her life, Larry Austin Hege.  They were married February 6, 1960 in York, SC.  Betty was a member of Marler Road Baptist Church where she loved attending services, singing in the choir, and fellowshipping with ladies from the church during Women of Worth meetings.  One of her favorite things to do was travel to various schools and colleges to watch her grandson play baseball.  Betty loved shopping and going to Pigeon Forge, TN every winter.  She also loved the beach and enjoyed taking trips to Kure Beach and the Outer Banks with her loved ones.  All that was closest to her knew her as “Nanny” with a bubbly personality and a heart filled with love for those she met.  They also seemed to have a special place in their heart for her. 

In addition to her parents and step-father, Lawrence Snow, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Austin Hege; and a nephew, William Harrell.  She is survived by her daughters, Teresa (Mike) Wooten and Jennifer (Jamey) Britton; grandchildren, Seth (Kim) Wooten, Cody Britton, Bethany (Eli) Cox, and Amy (Mike) Waddell; great-grandchildren, Misha and Garrett Waddell; a sister, Carolyn (Michael) Harrell; and several nieces and nephews.  

A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM, Monday, June 12, 2023 at Gentry Family Chapel with Rev. Randy Johnson and Pastor Brian Poindexter officiating.  Burial will follow at Marler Road Baptist Church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00PM, prior to the service at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mtn. Valley Hospice, 243 N. Lee Ave. Yadkinville, NC 27055.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mtn. Valley Hospice for the love and care shown to our mom and Nanny.
