Betty Evans Nicks

BOONVILLE-  Mrs. Betty Lou Evans Nicks passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 after just celebrating her 87th birthday.  She is now rejoicing in Heaven with her Lord and Savior, and all the loved ones who have gone on before.  Mrs. Nicks was born August 22, 1936 in Yadkin County to the late Curtis Franklin and Mattie Pearl Winters Evans.  She is survived by her son Chris (Cammy) Nicks, 2 daughters, Teresa Nicks Blevins and Susan Nicks Holbrook; 6 grandchildren, Matthew Groce, Ashley Groce, Kristin Nicks (Nick) Lovelace, Houston (Carla) Nicks, Silas Holbrook, Sterlin Holbrook; 3 great-grandchildren, Jax Lovelace, Ayla Nicks, Camryn Nicks; Sisters, Gay Swisher, Brenda Sue (Benny) Hudson; brother, Ray Evans; sisters-in-law, Kay (Roger) Pardue, Jane Nicks Roof; and many special nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nicks was also preceded in death by her husband, James Donald "Curly" Nicks, and 4 brothers, Tildon Evans, Wayne Evans, Harold Evans, and Roger Evans.  Betty was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church most of her life.  She retired from Unifi and also with 19 enjoyable years at Share A Home preparing delicious meals for the residents.  Nothing made her happier that preparing meals for her family, especially Sunday Lunches.  She especially enjoyed taking care of her garden and flowers while her health permitted.  She deeply loved all of her family but nothing made her happier than spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Sunday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville.  Mrs. Nicks will also be available for public viewing between 11 AM and 5 PM Saturday and during the day on Sunday.  Her funeral service will be 1:00 PM Monday at Shady Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Chris Benfield. She will lie in-state from 12:30 - 1:00 PM before the service.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Shady Grove Baptist Church, 3808 Center Road, Boonville, NC 27011 or to Share A Home, 2800 Woodruff Road, Boonville, NC  27011.
