Betty Lou Kelly Steelman

Mrs. Betty Lou Kelly Steelman, 84, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2019 surrounded by loving family. Betty was born February 1, 1935, in Yadkin County. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Allen and Ruby Viola Black Kelly. She spent her childhood in Yadkin County and graduated from Courtney High School, valedictorian of her class. She was married to the late Max Boyd Steelman, who died August 23, 2010. They made their home in the Courtney Community where she was a devoted mother and homemaker. She enjoyed gardening with Max, quilting with her mother, reading biographies and cooking and caring for her family. Family vacations, Outer Banks fishing trips, and trips to the Grand Ole Opry were special times for her. One of the greatest joys of her life was being Grandma Betty. Most recently, she looked forward to events at the Yadkin Cultural Arts Center; and Malpass Brothers and Daily & Vincent live shows. She is survived by her four daughters, Beverly K. Steelman, Nancy S. Poythress and husband, David S. Poythress II, Mitzie S. Branon and husband, Mitchell A. Branon and Glenda S. Wicker and husband, Jeffrey B. Wicker; grandchildren, Mason G. Branon and Sydney A. Branon; sisters-in-law, Lucille S. Craver and Anne Steelman. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at Yadkin Memorial Gardens by Rev. James Williams. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Highway 601 North, Yadkinville prior to the service.
