Billy "Thumb" Hall Williams

Williams East Bend- Mr. Billy Hall “Thumb” Williams, 88, went home to his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 surrounded by his family. Billy was born on March 19, 1933 to the late Rob and Cleo Hall Williams in East Bend, NC, Billy was a member of Union Cross Friends Church. He retired from Western Electric/AT&T with 37 years service in 1989. After that he spent his time playing golf, growing and selling hay. In later years, he enjoyed time with grandsons Jared and Corey in the cattle business. He served in the US Army during the Korean War in Fort Jackson, SC and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Billy served as a Yadkin County Commissioner from 1972-1980 and 1984-1988. He was chairman from 1972-1974 and 1976-1979. In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert “Junior” Williams, Jim, Max and Harold Williams and sisters-in-law Nelda, Abigail, and Sue Williams. Surviving are his wife, Carol Hauser Williams; daughter Beth Holcomb and husband Mark, and son Mark Williams and wife LaDonna; four grandsons Jordan (Kate) Holcomb, Matthew Holcomb, Jared Williams, and Corey Williams; his brother Howard Williams; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Dorcas Hauser; and sisters-in-law Carolyn and Nancy Williams; and several nieces and nephews. His Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 1:00PM at Union Cross Friends Church with Pastor Dr. Robin Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 20, 2021 from 11:00AM-1:00PM prior to the funeral service. The family would like to thank the wonderful care given to Billy by Hospice and special nurses Julie and Penny and special caregiver, Jill Jester.
