Bobby Kent Long 81, Boonville, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Novant Forsyth Medical Center. Bobby was born in Yadkin County on July 18, 1936: son of the late Rev. Clayton R. Long and Vera Whitaker Long. He was a member of Longtown United Methodist Church. For most of his career, he was an independent truck driver. Being an avid gardener, his passion was growing and selling produce to his neighbors and friends in the Yadkin County community. He never met a stranger in his life and he enjoyed eating breakfast with his cousins, Hoyt Shore and Benny Long, as well as his other buddies at Bojangles. In his high school years, he worked with his parents on their missionary assignments and helped in the construction of several churches. A celebration of life service will be conducted on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Longtown United Methodist Church with Rev. Tilden Bridges and Rev. Jimmy Lancaster officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Gentry Family Funeral Service Yadkinville. Survivors include his three sons, Tim Long (Jodie), Michael Long and Barton Webster Long (Tracey), four grandchildren; Jeremy Long, Christopher Long, Abbey Long and Emily Long and one brother; James Long (Sharon). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Barbara Crater Long and a sister, Kay Dunn.
