Bonnie Marie Lyon Shepherd

Bonnie Marie Lyon Shepherd, 86, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022. Bonnie was born December 12, 1935 in Little Richmond Community of Surry County, NC to Victor “Edwin” and Grace Alice Corder Lyon. She graduated from Sparta High School in 1954 and was a member of First Baptist Church in Yadkinville. Bonnie was a wife, mother, grandmothers, Cub Scout Leader, babysitter for working mothers, seamstress, receptionist at Hoots Memorial Hospital. She worked for the Board of Elections. She loved arts and crafts and was one of the library’s best customers. She was a member of the Yadkin Country Queen Club as well as Yadkin Order of Eastern Star #233 where she was a past worthy matron. In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by three brothers-in-law, Carey C. Caudill, Arnold Horton and Carlyle Shepherd. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Holton Bryan Shepherd. Sons, Edwin “Bryan” (Cheryl) Shepherd of Yadkinville, Robert Lyon (Leah) Shepherd of Machipongo, VA and Billy Wayne (LeAndra) Shepherd Montvale, VA; Three Grandsons, Reid Thomas (Ren) Shepherd of Richmond, VA, Graham Lyon Shepherd of Richmond, VA, Zane Foster Shepherd of Montvale, VA; Two sisters, Sue Lyon Boles of North Carolina and Nancy Lyon Caudill of Roanoke, VA; nieces, Wina Caudill Green of Roanoke, VA, Martha Perry Sturgill of Sparta, NC, Carla Bowman of Pinnacle, NC, Angie Johnson of Davidson, NC, Stacie Roberts of Raleigh, NC,; nephews, Phillip Steven Horton of Independence, VA, and Brad Shepherd of Raleigh, NC; brother-in-law, Hugh Gray (Carolyn) Shepherd; sister-in-law, Margaret Shepherd. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 7027 Albert Pick Rd., Suite 104, Greensboro, NC 27409. The family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Friday, September 30, 2022 at Gentry Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville with Rev. Will Hamric officiating. Burial will follow at Sparta Town Cemetery.
