After a long and courageous 50-year battle against cancer, Brenda Blackburn Walker has been welcomed home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Brenda was a warm and outgoing person who always had a positive influence on the lives of the people around her. She made the world a better and more beautiful place with her love of cats, butterflies and flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Etta Lou McCoin Blackburn and Carl Blackburn, and her husband Thomas Ellis Walker. She is survived by her son C. W. Walker, his wife Christy Norman Walker, two grandsons Samuel Lucas Walker and Nathan McKinley Walker of Yadkinville, and by two special kitties, Gracie and Macie, who made her later years more joyful. She is also survived by her cousins Pat Long (Blake, Mandy), Earl Blackburn, Jr. (Debby, Caleb), Rex Wood, and Edna Blackburn, and her Sisters-In-Law Maggie Fulk and Audrey Walker. We wish to thank some special friends, Sharon and Mike Atwood, for the familial bond and love they had for both Brenda and Tom over the past 12 years. We always felt better knowing they lived beside such wonderful people. Brenda was a member of Believer’s Baptist Church, Yadkinville. Her church family meant the world to her. The Cancer support group members were very special to Brenda for their friendship and support during her many battles with cancer. We would like to thank the many doctors and nurses at the Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center who provided first-class care for her. Special thanks to Kimberly Stout who developed a close friendship with Brenda during her battles. In her final days and hours, Brenda and her family were cared for by the Yadkin Team at the SECU Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. We want to recognize specifically Dayna and Stacey for their patience and compassion at crucial parts of her care.
