East Bend Mr. Calvin Garfield Hutchens, 85, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018 at SECU Hospice Home of Yadkin. Mr. Hutchens was born July 12, 1932 in Yadkin County to the late Luther and Verna Carico Hutchens. He was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in which he helped build, and attended until his health declined. Mr. Hutchens worked as a farmer, then at Thomasville Furniture, and retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. After retirement, he did carpentry work and enjoyed gardening. Mr. Hutchens is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Bessie Speer Hutchens; by his two children, Barbara (Kenneth) Martin and Rick (Sherri) Hutchens; two grandchildren, Zachary (Kayla) Hutchens and Allison (Ben) Calhoun; one great grandchild, Harrison Calhoun; and sister, Juanita Watson; and many special family members. A graveside service will be conducted, at 11:00AM, Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Bobby Watts and Pastor Ottis Hurst officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00PM Monday evening at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 4332 Mount Bethel Church Road East Bend, NC 27018.
