Calvin Franklin "Butch" Matthews

Calvin Franklin “Butch” Matthews, 76, passed away Friday January 22, 2021. Mr. Matthews was born June 16, 1944 in Forsyth County to the late Moyer Virgil Matthews and Blanche Pilcher Matthews. He was retired from a career at Piedmont Airlines later US Airways.  He enjoyed traveling and sailing. Mr. Matthews served in the US Navy.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Virgie Callahan and Dr. Linda McKay; brother in law Dee R. Callahan. Surviving are a sister Dottie (Jerry) Cornelius; two brothers Keith (Sherry) Matthews, Mark (Melinda) Matthews; six nieces; two nephews; seven great nieces; two great nephews. He left behind his constant companion and most cherished dog Tippi. The public can come and pay their respects and sign the register book from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Friday January 29, 2021 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in East Bend. A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com.
