Gentry Yadkinville- Mr. Carl “Junior” Gentry, Jr., 90, passed away Friday, September 01, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born January 28, 1927 in Yadkin County to the late Carl and Lora Pardue Gentry. Mr. Gentry attended Yadkinville High School and was a graduate of John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science in Nashville, TN. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Navy as a medic in Quantico, Va. After the war, he began his long career in funeral service as an employee with Mackie-Hinshaw Funeral Directors in Yadkinville. He along with Grady M. Mackie, purchased the funeral home from the Hinshaw Family in the early 1970’s and built a new facility outside Yadkinville, of which the name was then changed to Mackie-Gentry Funeral Home. He continued his career when Mr. Mackie retired in 1984 and Mr. Gentry became owner and operator until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of Center United Methodist Church, but had attended Harmony Grove Friends Meeting and Maplewood Baptist Church over the past few years. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Christine Ingram Gentry, and his sisters, Pauline Harper, Mozelle Helton, Gaynelle Gentry, Helen Bell; and a brother, Paul Gentry. Surviving are his daughter, Matoaka Gentry and Chris of Yadkinville; several nieces and nephews; his canine companion, Jake; and his friend, Laura G. Vanhoy. A public visitation will be from 1:00-6:00 PM Sunday September 3, 2017 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A Graveside Service for his family and close friends, will be held 11:00 AM Monday September 4, 2017 at Center Memorial Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SECU/ Mountain Valley Hospice Home of Yadkin, 230 North Lee Avenue, Yadkinville, NC 27055.
