Carol Key Dobbins She may have been your teacher, a historical guide, social worker or even dressed you for your prom or wedding day. She may have shared life changing stories with you, or possibly even accompanied you on a mission trip. But, first and foremost she wanted you to know she was a “child of the king”. And on April 15th, Carol Key Dobbins found herself not closing a chapter of time spent with us, but beginning an eternity of celebrating and worshipping her God. She will be forever with us in our hearts until we are reunited again. Carol was born on May 28th, 1950 to Raleigh and Doris Key in Wilkes County. While students at Wilkes Community College, she met her lifelong “hero”, Benny Dobbins. Upon graduation from Appalachian University, they married and have shared 46 lovely years with each other at their home in Jonesville, N.C. She was a steadfast supporter of her husband’s military career. You’ve never met a more patriotic American than Carol. She adored her soldier. She often said “I never had a job I didn’t like”. She loved the 15 years she taught students in the Wilkes and Yadkin County Public School System. She treasured the children entrusted to her care and made sure to let them know she was their advocate. After leaving the school system, Carol was a curator for the Reynolda House in Winston Salem. Her compassion for people and children also shone brightly during her time as a social worker in Yadkin County. She then opened Carol’s Wedding Shop. Her passion for helping brides make their wedding day perfect was evident. She was just as passionate about assisting young ladies choose the perfect prom gown. During the spring you could quite often see Carol working until midnight perfecting a young ladies prom dress for her big day. It’s obvious that she loved people and her careers. Carol was predeceased by her parents and 2 siblings. Continuing to share her great stories of life are her husband Benny; brother Rex (Elizabeth) Key of Currie, N.C.; double first cousin, Linda Sue (Bob) Frazier of Janesville, WI; several nieces and nephews; and an abundance of friends. The celebration of Carol’s life will be delivered by Dr. Roger Hensley on April 20, 2017 at 6:00pm, with visitation from 4:00 until 6:00 prior to the service, at First Baptist Church of Jonesville, 134 Winston Road, Jonesville, NC. Her internment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hamptonville, N.C. Carol loved flowers and those will be warmly accepted or donations may be made to Ebenezer’s Children’s Home, PO Box 2777 No. Wilkesboro, NC 28659 or the donor’s choice.
