Winston-Salem - Carolyn Sue McGrew, 85, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 12, 2024. Born at Bancroft, WV, she was the daughter of Merle Phalen and Mildred I. McClanahan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Elder Jack H. McGrew; twin sister, Marilyn Saunders; brother, Merle F. Phalen; and sister, Ethel Moses. Survivors include her five children: Jennifer Figueroa, Jo (Rob) Callis, Jonathan (Andrea) McGrew, Jack (Sue) McGrew, and Julie Ayres; brother, Larry Phalen; sisters: Bertha Phalen, Tena Lynch, and Nena Elliott; 10 grandchildren: Ronnie, Laura, Ben, Gabriel, Jaclyn, James, Carolyn, Mathias, Jason, and Ava; eight great-grandchildren: Rebecca, Cole, William, Caleb, Atticus, Jaxson, Cody, and Brianna; and long-time friend, Ileen Martin.
The family will receive friends during a celebration of Carolyn’s life from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Gentry Family Funeral Service, 428 E Main St, East Bend, NC. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the Gentry Family Chapel and will be conducted by Terry Lane, Pastor of Shallowford Baptist Church, Pfafftown, NC.
A memorial service will be observed 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, 5233 Rocky Fork Rd, Cross Lanes, WV. Gentry Family Funeral Service of East Bend is serving the McGrew family.
