Carolyn Owenby Kartes, 70, of East Bend, NC passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with brain cancer on December 18, 2022, surrounded by her family and friends.  Carol built a wonderful life in East Bend. She loved her family and friends endlessly. She was always cooking, baking, and taking care of everyone. Carol will be dearly missed and always remembered.

Carol was predeceased by her mother, Susie Mae Owenby and her husband, Timothy Kartes. She is survived by her Fiancé, Rex Hobson; daughter, Suzanne (Ike) Hemric; granddaughter, Nevaeh (Nik) Pardue; precious great-grandson Riggs Isaac Pardue, whom she adored with everything she had; her sister, Joan Joyce; a niece, Katie Joyce and many dear cousins. In her final days, her special friends Nancy Draughn and Susan Johnson were by her side showing their love.

Carol requested a celebration of life be held in private as opposed to traditional funeral services. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful staff at Novant Neuro ICU along with Mountain Valley Hospice and the love, support and guidance that was given throughout the past month. The family would like to request donations be made in her honor to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care (Woltz Hospice Home) in lieu of flowers.
