EAST BEND - Mr. Caswell Clyde Wall, 98, of Flint Hill Road passed away peacefully Thursday, June 27, 2024 at the SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin. He was born April 27, 1926 in Yadkin County to the late John T. “Tunie” and Lillie Viola Smith Wall. Mr. Wall attended East Bend School, and then joined the US Army at the age of 18 and was stationed in Italy during World War II with the 10th Mountain Division. After the war, he returned to his home in East Bend and made a lifelong career as a Brick Mason and Carpenter. He was a long time member of East Bend United Methodist Church, a faithful member of the American Legion Post 336, and one of the last two remaining Charter Members of East Bend Volunteer Fire Department until his retirement with over 25 years of service. Mr. Wall loved being outdoors on his lawn mower, fishing, gardening, hunting, raising his cows, traveling, going to the lake or the beach, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the Grand Ole Opry. He enjoyed volunteering and took great pride in doing things for his community. He was very proud of East Bend and enjoyed calling it home. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Zena Mae Smitherman on October 29, 2001; and by his brothers, John William “J.W.” (Kate) Wall, Ray (Thelma) Wall, and Carroll Lee Wall. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Martin Wall; sons, Jerry L. Wall of Winston-Salem and Randy D. (Tracy) Wall of Ronda; granddaughters, Jennifer L. (Phillip) Beane of Greensboro and Jeannie L. (Richard) Hinson of Greensboro; great-grandchildren, Kyndall Beane, Cohen Beane, Connor Hinson; several special nieces, nephews, and his sister-in-law, Jolene Sheek. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Sunday at Gentry Family Funeral Service of East Bend. His Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at East Bend United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Bruce Updyke, Rev. Allen Boggs, and Rev. Arnold Gosnell. He will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in East Bend Friends Cemetery with Full Military Honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346, American Legion Post 336, and the NC National Guard Honor Guard. The family would like to express their gratitude to the loving and gracious in-home caregivers and the wonderful staff and volunteers of Mountain Valley Hospice Home in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either American Legion Post 336, 220 Legion Drive, East Bend, NC 27018 or to the East Bend Volunteer Fire Department, 200 School Street, East Bend, NC 27018.
