Mr. Charles Avery Haynes passed away peacefully in his home on January 12, 2024. Charles was born, February 13, 1944 to Leonard Lee & Wiggins Ireland Haynes. He graduated from Davie County High School in 1962. He married Alma Caudle, and they made their home in Lone Hickory. Charles was a dedicated family man and a faithful member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and treasurer of the cemetery committee and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. Charles worked for 37 years at RJ Reynolds. He was also an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he became an avid golfer later in life. “Charlie” had a friendly, easygoing personality and was well-loved by those who knew him. In addition to his parents and an infant brother, Jackie Haynes, Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Alma Haynes; two sisters, Linda Snow and Betty Spillman; and a granddaughter, Jana Cave. He is survived by two children, Tamika (Derek) Cave of Boonville, and Avery (Jinda) Haynes of Lone Hickory; three grandsons, Jonathan (Elise) Cave, Grayson and Charlesten Haynes; three great-grandsons, Devan McCaskill, Nathan and Jackson Cave; a brother, Junior (Barbara) Haynes; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 14, 2024 from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Sandy Springs Baptist Church in Harmony. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM with his nephew, Rev. Chris Snow, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sandy Springs Baptist Church (2930 Sandy Springs Rd., Harmony 28634) or Trellis Supportive Care (Attn: Finance 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103). The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Becky Spillman, Anthony Wansley, Pat Shores, Trellis staff, and many others who cared for Charles during his last years of declining health.
