Mr. Charles H. Mathis, 80, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Mathis was born October 14, 1937 in Wilkes County to Commie and Mettie Somers Mathis. He was a member of Union Baptist Church. Mr. Mathis enjoyed playing golf, talking to people, but most of all, his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Howard and Eddy Mathis; and two brothers, Blaine Mathis and Robert Mathis. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Patty Gregory Mathis; two daughters, Karen (Tom) Bumgarner and LuAnn (Reggie) Johnson; two grandchildren, Breanne (Steve) Hinson and Grace Johnson; a sister, Betty Campbell; and a sister-in-law, Avanel Mathis.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00PM, Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Union Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Pardue and Reggie Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00PM prior to the service at the church.
