Mrs. Clara Mae Ellis Black, 78, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024. She was born September 6, 1945 in Lee County, Mississippi to the late William Byron Ellis and Lila Lamb Ellis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert Leon Black; seven brothers and sisters; and seven sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Mrs. Black worked for many years as a seamstress and then became the office manager for the family plumbing business. She enjoyed flowers, puzzles, watching game shows, and her top priority was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters, Tina (Tony) McLure, Zina (Jerry) C. Henry; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Ann (David) Payne; brother, Sonny (Jamie) Ellis; sisters-in-law, Helen Gable, Nona Little; and many nieces and nephews. There will be funeral services in her home town of Tupelo, Mississippi at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff of Mtn. Valley Hospice and the staff of Gentry Family Funeral Service for the loving care shown to Clara and her family. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Black family.
