Howell Yadkinville – Clarence Asbury “Nookie” Howell, 97, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Yadkin Nursing Care Center after a short illness. He was born December 12, 1920 in Yadkin County to the late Thomas Roscoe Howell and Winnie Jane Royall Howell. Nookie served during World War II with the Army Air Corp. He was a retired plumber and was known for his constant whistling at work and play. Nookie enjoyed baseball, gospel music, and singing in the choir. He and Lucy enjoyed camping and were longtime members of the regional Winnebago Club. During their travels, they were able to visit all 50 states, but liked North Carolina the best. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Blaine, Marvin, Ralph; sisters, Francis, Ruth, and Blanche. Surviving are his wife of 75 years, Lucy Mae Hutchens Howell; sons, Clarence Arthur “Sonny” Howell, Kenneth Lee (Margie) Howell; grandchildren, Donna Robertson, Teresa (John) Washak, Jeff (Rose) Howell, Julia (James) Howell; great grandchildren, Justin Howell, Noelle Gordon, Andrew Robertson, Johnathan Washak, Joshua Washak, Katlin Howell, Shelby Howell, Sophia Lin; great great grandchildren, Lenah, Atalia, Skyler, Alana, and Nikola. His funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Baltimore United Methodist Church by the Rev. Chad Shoaf and the Rev. Keith Howell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by the Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., prior to the service, on Tuesday at Baltimore United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Baltimore United Methodist Church, 2419 Baltimore Road, East Bend, NC 27018.
