East Bend It is with great sadness that the family of Debbie Matthews announces her departure from this world on Friday, December 3, 2021, at her home in East Bend, NC. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 44 years, John Matthews, her daughter Johnna Matthews and her grand furry-child, Mr. T. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Gladys Swaim McBride; and a sister Janet Ealese McBride. Debbie will also be dearly missed by her nieces and nephew, Robin Tope, Tonya Mescher, Leslie Ring and Greg Dorsett, as well by her first cousins Carol and Ronnie Crotts, her dear friend Jeanie Bohrer, other members of her family, and anyone that ever had the pleasure of knowing her. Debbie loved the outdoors and hiking. And while she enjoyed all seasons, the changing of the leaves in the Fall was her favorite. She was also a skilled baker, known for her red velvet cake. With a warm welcoming smile and a zest for life, Debbie is a beautiful soul that will truly be missed. A funeral service will be held at 12:00PM Monday, Dec. 6, 2021 at Gentry Family Chapel in East Bend. Funeral procession and burial will follow at Prospect United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 11:00AM to 12:00PM, prior to the service at the funeral home.
