Dolores Russ Bray

Yadkinville Mrs. Dolores Russ Bray passed away at Mountain Valley Hospice Care in Yadkinville NC on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer. Dolores was born in Wilkes Barre, PA on January 14, 1931. She married Robert L. Bray in 1948 and moved to Yadkinville in 1961 after his retirement from the Marine Corp. She was an avid reader and “Days of Our Lives” fan. She and her friends would always call each other every day after watching Days and discuss the recent show. Dolores was a volunteer reading teacher for ten years at Yadkinville Elementary School. Other involvement included working for more than ten years at the polls on election days. She loved to travel, with her favorite excursion being a cruise around the entire continent of South America. Dolores loved people, especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was known to never forget a birthday or special event and always sent a card and gift. Her five-day coconut cake was always requested at holiday meals. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Robert Bray, and sister, Marie Ondrea. Survivors include daughters, Kathy Mashburn (Charles) of Mocksville and Patricia Coates of Greensboro; grandchildren, Brian Mashburn (Susan) of W Bloomfield, MI and Elizabeth Mashburn of Marion, NC; and great grandchildren, Emma and Benjamin Mashburn of W Bloomfield, MI. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00PM, Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00AM, Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Winston Salem. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
