Donald "Don" Eugene Gillenwater

Rev. Donald “Don” Eugene Gillenwater, age 83, passed away November 25, 2019. He was born February 14, 1936 in Mercer County, West Virginia to the late James Arthur Gillenwater and Elsie Irene Sparks Gillenwater. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Linda Anthony Gillenwater; brother Jim Gillenwater; sisters Phyllis Linkous, Rita Bowling, Wanda Lovell. Mr. Gillenwater was a retired Baptist Preacher, and he also was a retired Coal Miner. He was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church. He is survived by his granddaughter Melissa Gillenwater; great-granddaughter Kaliee Gillenwater; daughter-in-law Liz Gillenwater; sister-in-law Elise Gillenwater; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 30, 2019 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Cool Springs Baptist Church in Elkin. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 PM following the visitation at Cool Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Russ Nixon, Rev. Seth Siceloff and Rev. Brandon Heath officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Forsyth Memorial Hospital Emergency Department and Palliative Care Unit, the staff of Yadkin Nursing Care Center, and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice Home for the loving care shown to Don and his family.
