Mr. Donald Gray Hutchens, 84, of Yadkinville, passed away peacefully Monday, September 18, 2023. He was born June 26, 1939 in Yadkin County to the late Theadore Nelson and Emma Spivey Hutchens. Donald had a great love of horses. He was an excellent horseman. From raising them, to breaking and riding them. He performed in horse shows for several years, and he also rode in rodeos. He rode on every wagon train within 100 miles, if it was pulling out, he was on it. Donald loved to watch his grandsons Shane and Cory ride in rodeos. He loved spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow. Donald was a man who enjoyed life, and he lived it to the fullest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Avonell Key Hutchens; a son, Mickey Lane Hutchens, 1 great-grandson and 1 great great-granddaughter. Surviving are his wife, Blanche Dobbins Hutchens of the home; his children, Terry (Angie) Hutchens, Pennie Boles (Ronnie), Brenda Kimmer; grandchildren, Shane Hutchens (Jordyn), Cory Spillman (Tonyah), Maighan (Dylan) Black, Amos Clark (Vanessa) IV, Ryan (Whitney) Stamper; like grandchildren to him, Kristi (Josh) Swaim, Raven Hutchens (Colby); great-grandchildren, Amos Clark V, Jessica Black, Mayson Stamper, Jackson Stamper, Emerson Stamper, Everett Swaim; step-children, Debbie Baity, Eddie (Liz) Baity, Robert (Janet) Baity, Kathy (Ronnie) Allen, 9 step-grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren, 2 step great great-grandchildren; a very special friend, Jackie “Bunk” Wall; and a very special K9 companion Snoop. The family will receive friends at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 1:00 PM till 2:00 PM. His funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM in the Gentry Family Chapel with Monty Harris officiating. The family would like to thank the Palliative Care staff at Forsyth Medical Center for the wonderful care they gave Donald. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Hutchens family.
