Doris Lee Nicks Draughn was born on May 24,1939 to Luther and Virginia Nicks of Wilkes County. 

Heaven gained an angel on Christmas eve. As Doris reached the pearly gates, Gilmer was there to meet her as he promised when he left her. What a celebration for Jesus’ birthday they had together. Doris was in the care of Mountain Valley Hospice Care at Hugh Chatham Hospital. She was a resident of Chatham Nursing Assistant Living in Elkin NC for the past 3 years. Gilmer and Doris owned a home in Dobson NC several years after retirement. Doris worked in cafes and diners before she started working at UNIFI, in the commissary in Yadkinville NC, until she retired. Doris and Gilmer traveled some, but she loved to quilt with her sister, Ruth and mother Virginia. She enjoyed gospel music and listening to preaching on WIFM. Doris was a member of Victory Chapel Baptist Church and had a strong faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. 

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Gilmer Draughn. Her parents, Luther and Virginia Nicks. Father and mother-in-law Sam and Pearl Draughn and a brother-in-law Rev. Spenser King. She is survived by her children, Ann Collins (Ricky) of Jonesville NC, Sue Burcham (Tony) of Dobson NC and Terrie Fallin (Jim) of Boonville NC. Six grandchildren Misty B Epperson of King NC, Kevin Burcham (Miranda) Ararat NC, Stephanie Collins of Myrtle Beach SC, Sherry Gates (Brian) of Dobson NC and Megan F Wiles (Toby) of Denver NC. Eight great-grandchildren Devin Epperson (Addison) King NC, Conner Epperson, Kenley Burcham, Carter Burcham, Jackson Gates, Cannon Gates, Emma Fallin, Blake Wiles and Walker Wiles. Doris had one great-great-granddaughter Charlotte Epperson (and a little great-great-grandson on the way). She is survived, also, by her sister Ruth King of Boonville, NC and brother Calvin Nicks (Wilma) of North Wilkesboro NC. Doris was always very proud of the family she raised. We will never forget the love she brought to our lives.

The family will receive friends at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Saturday December 28, 2024 from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM with funeral service at 12:00 PM in the Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville NC. Services will be conducted by Rev Don Hudson of Fall Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Boonville Cemetery.

The family would like to especially thank all the nurses and CNAs on the second floor of HCMH in Elkin that took great care of our Mom. It takes special angels to help the family during these times, also to all our family and friends for the many visits and prayers.
