Doris Jean Swaim Spicer, 90, of Hamptonville passed away at her home, Thursday, January 11, 2024. She was born September 24, 1933 in Yadkin County, the daughter of Milton Homer and Grace Ashley Swaim. She was a loving wife, sister and aunt. Doris enjoyed sharing her memories of her family and childhood. She made many lifelong friends from school and work. Her career began with Walker 5&10, then she worked for Southern Bell and retired after 35 years of service. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her brothers, Earl, Flake and Claude, a sister, Mozelle Brown, brother-in-law Alvin Brown, and sister-in-law, Lorene Swaim. Doris is survived by her husband, Dennis Spicer, sister-in-law, Gerry Swaim, nephews Robert Swaim, Dean Swaim, nieces, Gail Metzger, Glenda Pardue, Jan Storie, Kathy Ray and Dawn Brown; all of whom she loved dearly and considered her children. Also surviving are her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Chris (Sheri) Spicer, Darrion (Tammy) Spicer, Brenda (Ricky) Carter, Bonnie Spicer and Debbie Sides. She is further survived by many great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. The family will greet friends on Saturday evening, January 13, 2024 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville, NC. A funeral service celebrating the life of Doris Swaim Spicer will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Swaims Baptist Church - where she had been a lifelong member. She will lie in state from 1:00-2:00 pm Sunday before the service. The Rev. Gordon Macemore and Dr. Ronald Brookshire officiating, and guest speaker will be her niece, Angela Adams. A time of sharing for friends and family will be available at the end of the service. Interment will follow the funeral in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Swaims Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
