Dorothy Jean Wagoner Pate passed away June 10, 2024. She was born August 8, 1933 in Hamptonville, NC to the late Lucy Chappell Wagoner and Arthur Clyde Wagoner. Dorothy worked at Sears in Elkin in her early adult years followed by a career in banking with Wachovia Bank until her retirement. During her life, she took several trips with her late husband, Bob Pate, and other family members and friends to Mexico in a renovated school bus christened, “El Tigre”. In addition, she and her husband - along with their son, Micheal - took a canoe trip down the full length of the Yadkin River in the 1980’s to help bring awareness to river conservation. During retirement, Dorothy was a devoted member of St Paul Methodist Church, serving as the church bookkeeper for more than a decade. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Harvey and Hoy-Lee Wagoner, and her sister Martha Sue Wagoner. She is survived by her sister Maggie Wagoner Collins, her children Micheal and Patricia, her grandchildren Rob (Heather) and Stacey (Ercel), and great grandchildren Emma, Raelin, Robert Andrew, Addison, and Jackson. A service will be held for family and friends on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 11:00 in the sanctuary of St Paul’s Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Paul’s treasurer, Ron Howard, 2624 Howards Bridge Rd, Union Grove, NC 28689. The family would like to say a very special thanks to the staff of Yadkin Nursing Center and Liberty Hospice for the loving care given to Mrs. Pate.
