Dorothy Walker Root

Mrs. Dorothy M. Root of Yadkinville, 90, died Thursday, January 23, 2025. She was born in Cortland, New York, the daughter of the late Fred G. and Bessie Smith Walker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Harold Root Jr., and a daughter, Sally Ann Hall; and her siblings, Marilyn, Irene, Ann, Fredrick, and George. Dorothy graduated from McGraw High School, McGraw, NY and then she was married to the late Howard W. Root. She worked for the Cortland Memorial Hospital for 24 years. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Beamer of Yadkinville; sisters, Shirley Parker of Mississippi, Barb Riley of Homer, NY; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be 2:00PM, Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Yadkinville Cemetery with Rev. Stephen Evans officiating. In lieu of flowers Mrs. Root’s request was memorials be made to Memorial Baptist Church, 125 Tompkins St., Cortland, NY, or Virgil United Methodist Church, Cortland, NY. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Root family.
