Earnest "Lee" Powe, Jr.

Mr. Earnest "Lee" Powe, Jr., 59, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022 at Forsyth Medical Center.  Mr. Powe was born May 21, 1962 in Lauderdale County, Mississippi to Earnest and Linda Ethridge Powe.  He retired from the US Air Force after serving as a security forces instructor, survival training instructor and a police officer.  After retiring from the Air Force, Mr. Powe worked for Hugh Chatham Hospital as a Chief Information Officer.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 55 and Bethel Methodist church in King.  He enjoyed golfing, camping, wood working and motorcycles. 

In addition to his mother, Mr. Powe was preceded in death by a son, Walter Cropper; and his birds, Ernie & Elaine.  He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Kathy Cropper Powe; his father, Earnest (Ruby) Powe Sr.; his children, Ryan (Janet) Monroe, Sascha Miller, Jennifer (Nicholas) Wyzewski, Bonnie Franklin, Jonathan (Raquel) Powe, Nathan (Kayla) Powe, and Sean (Kristy) Powe; 30 grandchildren; a sister, Lisa (Allen) Carlisle; two brothers, Glenn (Dianne) Powe and James (Paisia) Powe; sisters-in-law, Margie (Robert) Orr and Donna (Ron) Guillory; brothers-in-law, John (Mary) Cropper and Don (Amy) Densmore; his best friend, Sam (Anna) Dillard; and his special cat, Erin.

A funeral service will be conducted at 4:00PM, Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Gentry Family Chapel with Chaplain Baxter Slaughter officiating.  The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00PM prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will follow Wednesday, April 13^th at 9:00AM at Salisbury National Cemetery with full military honors.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Davis Regional Cancer Center & Dr. Cooper for their loving care and kindness during Mr. Powe’s difficult journey.
