Edgar "Mickey" Marion Martin, Jr.

October 21, 1932 — December 16, 2022

East Bend – Durham Mr. Edgar M. Martin Jr. (Mickey), 90, passed away Friday, December 16, 2022, at his home in Durham surrounded by family. Mickey was born on October 21, 1932, to Edgar Marion and Ethel Huff Martin, and was raised in the East Bend community. He graduated from Oak Ridge Military Academy and joined the US Navy where he honorably served stateside during the Korean Conflict. Mickey joined Goodyear Tire Corporation which took him and his family to Miami for several years. Mickey returned to the Durham area where he owned and operated several country music entertainment venues. He also “dabbled” in real estate at Lake Gaston, resulting in the development and management of several residential properties on the lake. His last project was building their dream home on the lake, a beautiful log cabin large enough for his children, grandkids, and great grandkids to enjoy together. He and Susan loved to travel the beach and mountains of NC and other adventures throughout the US. Mickey/Daddy was a jack of all trades and could build or fix just about anything and his family often benefited from the results. He also loved playing games and jokes of all kinds and his smile and laughter will be missed by all. After his family, Mickey’s second love was UNC football and basketball. He and Susan faithfully watched and attended as many games as they could together, including several ACC and Final Four tournaments. He also enjoyed his Sunday afternoon Nascar racing events. In addition to his parents, Mickey was preceded in death by his sisters, Ellen M Jent; husband William Jent Jr.; sister Olivia M. Best; niece Mary Ellen Penn; and a grandson Stephan Nataf. Mickey will also be welcomed into Heaven by Girl, his faithful and beloved Husky mix. He is survived by his wife of over 35 years, Susan Mooney Martin; sister Mary Ruth Martin of East Bend; daughters Debbie Crater (Fred), Marion Nataf (Jean Paul), Sheila Brewer (Billy) and Brenda Scroggins; nephews, Cliff Best (Diane) and Ed Schreiber. Also surviving are his prized and loved grandchildren, Shannon Nataf, Brandon Crater (Kate), Beth Crater, Morgan C Fye (Brandon), William Brewer, Marianna B Nutting (Alec), Jonathan Brewer and Josh Scroggins; along with 5 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 pm Wed, Dec 21, 2022 at East Bend United Methodist Church with Rev. David Blankenberg officiating. Burial will follow at East Bend Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm prior to the service, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
