Groce Hamptonville- Edith Bryant Groce, 93, of Hamptonville, passed away Monday, September 18, 2017. She was born in Yadkin County on December 28, 1923 to Andrew and Fannie Brown Bryant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Harold Groce, her brothers, Melvin, Herman, and Harvey Bryant, and by a sister, Merlie Groce. She is survived by her daughter, Vonda (Larry) Renegar of Winston-Salem, and her son, Doug (Cookie) Groce of Hamptonville. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Susan (David) Wendell of Los Angeles and her grandson, Scott (Laura) of Clemmons, her great-grandchildren, Mary Louise, Benjamin, Olivia, and Kate. She is survived by one sister, Biddie Bryant and sisters-in-law, Joyce Bryant, Frances Groce, and Jean Wilhelm, and a number of nieces and nephews. Edith was a member of Swaim’s Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. Her funeral service will be held at Gentry Funeral Chapel in Jonesville on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Shelton and Rev. Dennis Bell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Swaim’s Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the cemetery fund at Swaim’s Baptist Church, 3919 Swaim’s Church Road, Hamptonville, NC 27020.
