Hamptonville Mrs. Edna Mae Ashburn Crater, 92, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Yadkin Nursing Center. Mrs. Crater was born November 21, 1928 in Surry County to Ellis Gray and Lillian Simpson Ashburn. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church. Mrs. Crater enjoyed working in her flowers and her garden, she loved watching her birds, and she was an amazing cook. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Crater was preceded in death by her husband of 64 ½ years, E.R. “Jr.” Crater; a son, Terry Lee Crater; a grandson, Bryan Crater; and a brother, Bill E. Ashburn. She is survived by two daughters, Diane (Tony) Flippin and Pam (John) Long; a daughter-in-law, Joanne Crater; grandchildren, Marty (Toni) Crater, Bart (Angie) Crater, Rodney (Jill) Crater, Wendy (Steven) Mosteller, and Heath (Callie) Freeman; twelve great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Jean Ashburn. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00PM, Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville. Burial will follow at Zion Baptist Church in Union Grove. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Morgan Hall, the late Judy Lovette, and the staff of Yadkin Nursing Center for the loving care given to Mrs. Crater.
