Edwina Mae Shore Gilliam

Yadkinville On May 9, at 6:30PM, our precious mom took Jesus’ hand and heard His voice saying “Well done, good and faithful servant”. Edwina Shore Gilliam was born on July 31, 1924 in Yadkin County. She was the daughter of Wint and Zeda Shore of Hamptonville, NC. Edwina loved to play the piano and grew up playing for various occasions. She was married to Amos Duncan Gilliam of Forest City, NC. She attended Drawns Business College where she met the love of her life. She and Amos raised five children in Fayetteville and Wagram, NC. Amos died in 1987. Edwina loved and supported her five children. She was always on the run, whether it was to a ballfield, piano recital, a GA church meeting or anything her children were involved in, she was there. She was involved in the church and community activities. She was a member of the Wagram Garden Club, the Laurinburg Women’s Club, and had a passion for beautiful flowers which she grew in her yard. Edwina grew up in Mountain View Baptist Church and played the piano and sang in the choir. Upon marriage, she raised her children in Spring Hill Baptist Church in Wagram. Edwina loved her part time job at Scotland Memorial Hospital where she worked at as a switchboard operator. Edwina is preceded in death by her parents, Wint and Zeda Shore. Her brother, Roger Shore and sister Pauline Shore Macemore; a grand-daughter, Dawn Gilliam; a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Smith Gilliam. She is survived by her children, Terry Gilliam of Hamptonville, Don (Betty) Gilliam of Laurel Hill, Kathy (Roy) McRae of Hamptonville, Statha Gilliam-Osborne of Raleigh, James Edwin (Alisa) Gilliam of Griffon; grandchildren, Sterling (Jill) Gilliam, Sara (Ryan) Crater, Tammy (Greg) Carter, Brook (Brian) Norvell, Charla Shore (Brad) Thomson, James Duncan (Jessica) Osborne, Amanda (Michael) Barttett, Jamie Gilliam, Joel Gilliam, Ally Gilliam; great-grandchildren, Saige (Dallas) Snow, Quinn (Stewart) Wilkins, Kaitlyn (Easton) Smith, Kinston Crater, Collin Crater, Harrison Carter, Victoria Shore Thomson, Weston Thomson, Everett Thomson, Emma Jean Osborne, Ila James Osborne, Annaleigh Barttett, and Gauge Hicks; great-great-grandchildren, Bronson & Ivy Snow. The funeral will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 11AM at Mountain View Baptist Church. The visitation will be from 10:00-11:00AM, prior to the service. The family would like to thank Liberty Hospice and the staff of Chatham Nursing home in Elkin, where Edwina spent her last nine years of her life. Memorials may be made to Mountain View Baptist Church Building Fund, 1232 Mountain View Church Road, Hamptonville, NC 27020. The family will be at 1313 Three Oaks Road, Hamptonville, NC, 27010.
