Elaine York Pratt, 76, of Courtney, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, August 12, at her home. Elaine, a four-time cancer survivor, ultimately succumbed to her thirteen plus year struggle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. She was born in Iredell County to Reuben F. York and Bernice S. Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Pratt Sr.; step-father, Cary D. Williams; brother, Reuben D. York; and sister, Francis Y. Williams. Elaine is survived by her son, John H. Pratt Jr.; daughter, Joan P. Dalton and husband Thomas; grandson, Timothy R. “TR” Reece Jr. and wife Jessica; granddaughter, Tamara R. Phillips and husband Sean; grandson, Jacob R. Pratt; great-granddaughter, Alexis D. Phillips; and great-grandsons, Hunter T. and Remington B. Phillips. Additionally, Elaine is survived by her brother, James R. “Ronnie” York Sr. and wife Cathy; step-brother, Glenn N. “Buddy” Williams and wife Gayle; step-sister, Judy W. Wright and husband Bill; brother-in-law, Dorrell L. Pratt; sister-in-laws, Betty B. York, Gaynell P. Hollar and husband Henry, Charlotte P. Norris and husband Harry, Retha P. Whitaker and husband Jimmy, and Judy F. Pratt. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 16,2018 at 2:00 PM at Gentry Family Funeral Chapel in Yadkinville, with David Snow officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 at the funeral home prior to services. Burial will follow at Courtney Baptist Church Cemetery.The family would like to acknowledge the staff and volunteers at the Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin, for the care during Elaine’s in residence stay, 16 – 25 June. Thank you to Hospice Chaplin Mark Brown and his guitar; the numerous visits were always welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed. Words cannot adequately express the heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for three very special ladies of Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care; RN Doris Coggin, CNA Pennie Boyd, and CNA Tamika Cave. For the care and love given to Momma; the continued encouragement and support provided to the caregiver; and the understanding that Elaine and her family desired the medicine of laughter, thank you so very much.
