Mrs. Ellen Casstevens Cheek, 97, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023. She was born May 29, 1926 in Surry County to the late Noah and Dora Casstevens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Nellie Vestal; her brothers, Frank Casstevens, Robert Casstevens, Ernest Casstevens, and Billy Ray Casstevens. Mrs. Cheek was a member of Longtown United Methodist Church where she held numerous offices throughout the years. Mrs. Cheek retired after 30 years of service at West Yadkin Elementary School. She delivered meals on wheels for 22 years, and volunteered for Mtn. Valley Hospice for 25 years. Ellen was a past President of Yadkin County Medical Ministries for 8 years, she was a former Vice President of Yadkin VFW Post 10346 Ladies Auxiliary, and she was a member for over 55 years with Yadkin County Extension Home Makers Club. She is survived by her husband of 77 years, Odell Cheek; their children, Sue (Johnny) Mitchell, Charles (Carlene) Cheek; grandchildren, Miranda (Brian) Laws, Candace (Tony) Obermeier, Allison (Jake) Pursley; great-grandchildren, Addison Obermeier, Evan Obermeier, Wellsley Pursley, and a brother, Tommy Casstevens. A graveside service will be Friday, September 8, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Longtown Cemetery with Rev. Mark Smith and Rev. Bob Swaim officiating. Mrs. Cheek will be available for viewing, Thursday, September 7, 2023 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
