Elsie Mae Merritt Griffin

Yadkinville – Elsie Mae Merritt Griffin, 94, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023.  She was born in Stokes County on August 27, 1929 to the late Grover Reid George and Lottie Woods George.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Ray Merritt; second husband, Graford Pardue; two brothers and two sisters.  Elsie worked her very first job at Duplan Cotton Mill and then worked at RJ Reynolds for 30 years until she retired.  She enjoyed farming, mowing, and the up keep of her yard.  There wasn’t a day you didn’t see her on the lawnmower or weed eating.  Elsie loved gardening and her flowers.  She loved watching and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Elsie touched the lives of so many people and now she can rest!  She was a member of Marler Road Baptist Church for 25 years and loved the Lord and was very faithful to her church and she was there every time the doors were open.  She is survived by her husband, Albert Griffin of eleven years; seven children, Larry (Lyn) Merritt, Michael (Linda) Merritt, Susan Merritt (Wayne) Shore, Tony (Sandra) Merritt, Jimmy (Diane) Merritt, Donnie (Gerrilyn) Merritt, Ronnie Merritt; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren.  Elsie had numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Gaye Shore, Betty Sizemore, Susan #2, Brenda Smith, and many that have gone on before her.  Her funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Marler Road Baptist by Pastor Randy Johnson and the Rev Jimmy Pardue.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 to 3:00 Sunday at Marler Road Baptist.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Marler Road Missionary Fund, 4433 Collins Road, Hamptonville, NC  27020.  Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Griffin family.  Online condolences can be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com.
