Jonesville Mrs. Esther Lurie Gregory Childress, 98, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018 at her home. Mrs. Childress was born December 1, 1919 in Wilkes County to Jody and Gladys Anderson Gregory. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Wilkes County. Mrs. Childress enjoyed baking, spending time with family, and decorating for the holidays, but she was best known for her chocolate pies. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Childress was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad Jesse Childress; a son, Vernon L. Childress; a grandson, Senega Childress; three sisters, Vesta, Viola, and Elector Gregory; and three brothers, Carlis, Charlie and Garvey Gregory. She is survived by three sons, Ronald Joe (Susan) Childress, Thomas Wayne Childress, and Chris Childress (Dolores Taylor); four grandchildren, Kim (Jeff) Rush, Lee Childress, Jeffery Childress, and Robert Childress; six great grandchildren, Emma, Wyatt, Luke, Lily, Dustin, and Amber; one great-great grandchild, Emery; three sisters, Carrie Gregory, Lillian Marion, and Mary Jane Mullis; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00PM, Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Gentry Family Chapel with Rev. Don Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Fall Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00PM Saturday evening at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
