It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene Mathis Myers at the age of 94, on February 5, 2025. A man of unwavering strength, patience, and wisdom, he leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, dedication, and hard work. Born on December 25, 1930, to Sanford (Sam) Myers and Lena Mitchell Myers, Eugene was raised alongside his brother S.T. Myers on the farm in Pea Ridge of Hamptonville, N.C. The land that shaped him would continue to be his home throughout his lifetime. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Marie Hutchens Myers, his parents, his brother, an infant brother, and nephew Dennis Myers. A proud Army veteran, Eugene served his country before returning home to build a life with his wife and family. After 30 years of dedicated service at Reynolds Tobacco Company, he retired, but never slowed down. He spent his later years tending to the farm he loved and indulging his passion for farming, especially cattle. The land, the animals, and his deep-rooted love for hard work were constants in his life. Eugene was known for his calm demeanor, earning him the affectionate nickname of "calm, cool, and collected," as his wife would lovingly describe him. He also had a reputation as the "Bank of Pea Ridge" in his family, providing financial wisdom and guidance to those who sought it. His appreciation for living life comfortably was rooted in the lessons he imparted to his family about the importance of investing—both in assets and in themselves. His patience was a gift he shared generously, offering sound advice when needed, and unwavering support to those he loved. He is survived by his two sons, Benny Myers and Richard Myers, and their wives, Kim and Pam; five grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. Ashley Myers Morrison, Ed.D. (Matt), Taylor Myers (Rebecca), Houston Myers (Haley), Matthew Myers (Lindsay), and Dr. Hunter Myers, M.D. (Leah); and seven great-grandchildren: Jack, Paige, Sam, Nolan, Axel, Ryker, and Braylee who brought him much joy in his later years. He will be missed by those who have cared for him, Linda Holleman, Lola Cheek, and Hilda Sanchez, as well as his special friend Peggy Casstevens. Eugene lived a full and meaningful life, one that was built on love for his family and the land that he tended with care. His legacy will continue through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the lessons of integrity, patience, and the importance of hard work that he so deeply believed in. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Oak Grove Cemetery Fund. His family will receive guests at Gentry Family Services in Yadkinville on Saturday, February 8, from 6:00PM until 8:00PM. A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at Oak Grove Church with Dr. Joey Tomlin officiating, followed by burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. Full military honors will be provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. Rest in peace, Eugene/Dad/Pepaw. You will forever be missed, and never forgotten.
