Faye Stokes Cornelius

Cornelius East Bend - Georgia “Nanny Faye” Stokes Cornelius, 78, passed away April 17, 2017 at Woltz Hospice Home. She was born December 21, 1938, daughter of the late George and Jettie Shore Stokes.  On February 24, 1962 she married D.C. Cornelius, who preceded her in death in 2002.  She was a retired nurse, loving Momma, and the best Nanny to her “most Special” grandkids whom she adored!  She was an active and devoted member of Forbush Baptist Church.  Faye was well known for her bags of cookies and pinto beans.  She is survived by three daughters, Donna (Marty) Myers, Lynne (Bill) Harris, and Beth (Kent) Doub; six grandchildren, Justin (Natalie) Myers, Lauren (Zach) Cannon, Brittany (David) Kirkpatrick, Nathan Harris, Mason Doub, and Kala Doub; two great-grandchildren, Grayson Myers and Mackenzie Cannon; two brothers, Harold (Dot) Stokes, Joe (Cynthia) Stokes; sister, Gladys Lowe; sister-in-law, Minnie Stokes; brothers-in-law, Allen (Peggy) Cornelius, Kenny (Veona) Cornelius; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Truman Stokes, Romie Stokes, Marvin Stokes, Odell Stokes; sisters, Wavolene Stokes, Laverne Stokes, and Ruby Stokes.  Her funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Forbush Baptist Church by the Rev. Dan Hix and the Rev. Tim Tucker.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.  She will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.  The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice and Dr. Trinidad and staff for all the love and care shown to Faye.  They would also like to thank her special circle of lady friends who have been strong and supportive to each other throughout the years.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Forbush Baptist Church General Fund, 3917 Old US 421 Hwy E., Yadkinville, NC  27055 or the Piedmont Triad Chapter, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), 216 W.
