Frances (Flossy) Elizabeth Shaffner Byrd

Frances Elizabeth Shaffner Byrd, 73, passed away Thursday May 14, 2020. She was born August 20, 1946 in Surry County to the late Jacob Ephrin Shaffner and Amy Macemore Shaffner.  She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Ryan Gwyn; two sisters Ruth Blake, Dorothy Mullis; five brothers Paul Shaffner, James Shaffner, Jesse Shaffner, William Shaffner and Jacob Shaffner. Surviving are her children Allen Lee (Yvonne) Byrd, Jr, Timothy Charles (Melissa) Byrd, Sherry Lynn Byrd (Fiancée Sammy Evans), grandchildren Samuel Byrd, Joshua Byrd, Jessica Dowell, Alex Gwyn, Natalie Gentry, Leslie Byrd, Jordan Byrd, Dylan Byrd, Ashley Barker, Austin Barker, Nickie Adams, Lakin Evans, Brett Barker, Blake Barker; eleven great grandchildren. Frances E. Shaffner Byrd was saved at East Elkin Baptist Church during a revival by Preacher Michaels (another preacher from Fall Creek) and was baptized at Mitchel’s River by Preacher Love from East Elkin (when she was pregnant with Lee-- she said there were snakes all around her).  She views Fall Creek Baptist Church as her family church, with half of her family being buried on the property.  She directs that her bodily remains be traditionally buried in the Fall Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. She will be able for viewing from 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM on Saturday May 16, 2020 and from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM Sunday May 17, 2020 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville. Due to government restrictions a private graveside service will be held at Fall Creek Baptist Church cemetery by Rev. Don Hudson. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville is serving the Byrd family.
