Frances Rebecca Mitchell Foster

Frances Rebecca Mitchell Foster, 90, passed away on Monday June 7, 2021, peacefully in her home. She was born in Wilkes County, NC on May 26, 1931, daughter of the late Dr. Gurney T. and Julia Phillips Mitchell.

Frances worked for the Yadkin County School System, during which time she received her degree from Appalachian State University. She taught several different grades, but her passion was in special education. Frances fondly talked about her time as a teacher and was proud to be awarded Teacher of the Year, as well as being the first teacher in Yadkin County to have a computer to work with her students. She retired from teaching after 34 years, continuing to be a pillar of her community and devoted member to First Baptist Church of Yadkinville. Frances was an amazing cook and avid baker. She always had an array of goodies and rewarding story of her life to share with everyone who came to her home. She thoroughly enjoyed her life with all of her family and friends. A more honorable, sweet tempered, godly woman does not exist.

Frances was proceeded in death by her husband, Therman Olenton (Tom) Foster, son Steve Foster, and sister Elizabeth Derkirmeninjian,and brothers-in-law Harry Derkirmeninjian and Ray Elgin. She is survived by 4 generations, her son, Thomas (Angie) Foster of Yadkinville; daughter Ella Marie (Cary) Wren of Akron, OH; and sister Carolyn Elgin of Salisbury. Eight grandchildren, David and John Steelman, Lisa Mullis, Stephen, Jordan and Nicholas Foster, Jeff McFoster and James Tucker. Eight great grandchildren; Melissa Kiger, Elijah Reavis, Cassie, Taylor, and Sadie Steelman, Lesley and Logan Mullis and Gabriel Berrocal-Foster. Three great-great-grandchildren, Matthew and Wyatt Southern and Jasper Jackson.

Honorary Pallbearers are David and John Steelman, James Tucker, Stephen and Nickolas Foster and Jeff McFoster.

There will be a family gathering at 2pm to 3pm at the funeral home, followed by a celebration of life service on Saturday June 12, 2021 at 3:00 pm from Gentry Funeral Chapel in Yadkinville.
