Franklin Delano Sloop, Sr.

Franklin Delano Sloop was born September 1, 1935 and passed away January 24, 2020 at the age of 84 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson surrounded by loving family and friends.  Franklin (Frankie) was born to Henry Monroe and Cora Mounce Sloop in Yadkin County.  He was named for Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who was his father’s hero for his role in helping the country dig out of the Depression.  Franklin served nine years in the US Navy from 1954 until 1963, and was most proud of his service in the CB’s (Construction Battalion aka Seabees).  Frankie was active in community organizations (Masons, VFW, Moose and Elks Clubs) and was a family man devoted to his immediate and extended families. He was particularly fond of his grandchildren, Dockery and Bronwyn, and was known for keeping the Sloop family reunion continuing for many years.  He will be sorely missed by friends and family alike.

Frankie is survived by two children:  Shawnee Sloop of Augusta, GA and Franklin Sloop, Jr. (Tiger) of Elkin, NC, two grandchildren: Dockery Sloop and Bronwyn Sloop of Elkin, three sisters; Kathleen Sloop Pinnix, Annie Sloop Shore both of Yadkin County, Betty Burney and her husband Bill Burney of Greensboro, one brother (Jerry Gray Sloop) of Surry County and numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews, also, he was preceded  death by 11 siblings.

 His funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 29th at 12 pm at the Little Richmond Baptist Church with Rev. J.V. Lowe and Pastor Winston Puckett officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 11am. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Rites by Grover King VFW Post 1115, Hillsville, VA.
