Yadkinville – Franklin Delano Wood, 86, of Lone Hickory Community in Yadkin County, passed away peacefully at Forsyth Hospital on Sunday, January 3, 2021 after fighting COVID-19 since December 10, 2020. He was born in Yadkin County on February 5, 1934 to the late Roy Herbert Wood and Ruby Nevada Hayes Wood. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death a son, Randy Delano Wood; brothers, Mac Wood, James Wood, Tommy Wood; sister, Nancy Wood. Franklin married the love of his life, Edna Gaither Wood on July 6, 1961 who survives of the home; also surviving is a son, Tim Wood; daughter, Melody Wood; Grandson, who was the apple of his eye, Wesley Wood; brothers, Felix Wood, Roy Wayne Wood; sister, Bertha Wood Vanhoy. Franklin was a member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandson, Wesley. He retired after many years of working in the furniture factories. He enjoyed playing rook, pitching horse shoes, auto racing, baseball, antique car shows, and cruise-ins. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday January 7, 2021 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville by the Rev. Eddie Macemore, the Rev. Howard Wagoner, and the Rev. David Kiser. Burial will follow at Sandy Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Franklin will lie in-state from 12:00 to 4:00 PM on Wednesday, January 6 and from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 7 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
