Fred Swanson Sparks

Yadkinville Mr. Fred Swanson Sparks, 86, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2021 at SECU Hospice Care Center. Mr. Sparks was born September 28, 1935 in Surry County to Elmer and Flossie Baity Sparks. Fred never met a stranger and he was giving of his time to his family and to his friends. Those who knew him, knew his passion was his farm and raising beef cows. Fred had many interests, including NASCAR, sports, and hunting. Cooking for friends during deer season was a special treat. To all who knew Fred Sparks, they will forever be changed for the better just by knowing him and spending time with him. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by a son, Mark Sparks; one sister and two brothers. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Brooks Sparks; a son, Sam (Karen F.) Sparks; a daughter-in-law, Karen L. Sparks; five grandchildren, Krystal Sparks, Sammy (Whitney) Sparks, Kara (Scott) Pillock, Dustin Sparks, and Chase Sparks (Brittany); four great grandchildren, Trent Pillock, Seth Pillock, Salem Presley Sparks, and Kason Boone Sparks; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A public viewing will be held from 8:00AM to 1:00PM, Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A graveside service will follow at 2:00PM at Boonville Cemetery with Rev. Dwayne Byrd officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mtn. Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Mtn. Valley Hospice for the loving care given to Fred.
