There will be much sadness in Clingman as a longtime pillar of the community, our Granny, has gone on to her eternal home in Heaven. Freddie Ann Wooten Walker, 81, of Clingman, peacefully passed away Monday, April 15th, 2024, surrounded by her family at Mountain Valley Hospice in Yadkinville.
Freddie was born on December 28, 1942, in Yadkin County, to the late Fred and Dorothy Wooten. She retired from Ronda-Clingman Elementary School after more than 30 years of service and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time on the phone catching up on the current events of the Clingman community, watching Duke basketball and reruns of Gunsmoke with her husband, and closely following the lives of her grandsons. She also loved to cook for her family and had a knack for making all things sweet, especially her fried apple pies. Her most important work; however, was being a servant to others. Although small in stature, Freddie was immeasurably strong and was a fearless protector of her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Wooten. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of nearly 60 years, Bill Walker of Clingman; two children, Rocky (Yvonne) Walker of Yadkinville and Lavonne Walker of Clemmons; and two grandchildren, her boys, Wesley Walker of Conway, SC and Carson Walker of Charlotte.
A hole will forever be left in the Walker family, and she will be missed dearly by all of those whose lives she touched. A celebration of life will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 3982 Clingman Road, Ronda, NC on Friday, April 19th, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Keith Blankley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the church. The service can be viewed live by going to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Ronda, Facebook page, Instagram page, Twitter "X" page, or YouTube page.
The family would like to extend a thank you to special caregivers Ayanna Walker and Tamikia Reed of Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, as well as the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice of Yadkinville, for being there when she needed them the most.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be considered for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Brenner Children’s Hospital, or the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation.
Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Walker family.
