Garry Raynor Guthrie

Garry Guthrie of Hamptonville, devoted husband, father, brother, son and dear friend passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021. Garry was a down to earth, God fearing man who will be remembered as an exceptional friend and human being by so many special people in his life.  Garry enjoyed farming, raising cattle, woodworking, western movies, reading books, most of all loved studying his Bible. He was born July 30, 1949 in Salem Virginia to Posie Guthrie and Mildred Eads Guthrie Nunn. Mr. Guthrie worked for ABF Trucking for 37 years and retired on May 28, 2010. He was a shop steward for Teamsters Local 391 for 30 years. He was preceded in death by his father Posie Guthrie, grandson Zachary Justin Loy. Surviving are  his wife Claudia Johnson Howell Guthrie; mother Mildred Nunn; children Janie (Scottie) Shipley, Lori (Tommy) Cobbler, Jason (Kelley) Guthrie; step son Stacy Howell; step granddaughters HaLee Shipley, Hannah Shipley; sisters Caroline (Loren) Lloyd , Vickie (Steven) Ridgeway; brothers Jack (Bonnie) Guthrie, Ronnie Guthrie, John (Lenda) Nunn, Perry Nunn, Jeff Nunn; k-9 companion Buddie. A memorial service will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Jamie Miles. Family request that everyone attending the service to wear a mask.
