Gary Thomas Smith

Gary Thomas Smith, 68, of Harmony died Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born in Iredell County on March 29, 1950; son of the late Thomas Asbury Smith and Geraldine Galliher Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of Rock Spring Baptist Church, owner of his own logging company, local tobacco farmer, a world champion softball player, Sunday School teacher for the teens class and Trustee for 30 plus years. Survivors include his wife; Linda Smith, four children; Penny Mitchell (Darrell), Monica Hutchens, Kyle Smith (April) and Joshua Smith (Alisha), eight grandchildren; Jacob Mitchell (Megan), Natalie Mitchell, Kayla Hutchens, Luke Hutchens, Naomi Smith, Kaleb Smith, Ansley Smith and Zoey Smith; one great granddaughter; Avery Mitchell, a sister; Caroldine Winebarger (Gene) and two brothers; Kenny Smith (Susan) and Randall Smith (Carolyn). He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Neil Smith. A celebration of life service will be conducted Saturday October 13, 2018 at 4:00 pm at Rock Spring Baptist Church with the Rev. Joshua Smith, Rev. Jeff Folk and Dr. Jesse Stroud officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church Fellowship hall. A special thanks to the staff of Iredell Memorial Hospital and Dr. Vivek Trivedi.
