"Gene" Marvin Eugene Cheeks

Mocksville

Mr. Marvin Eugene “Gene” (Shorty) Cheeks left holes in our hearts this morning April 1st, 2025. It seems like this should be one of his April fool’s pranks but we know he believed and is now in a better place. He was born in Rowan County to Marvin and Jean Cheeks on December 9, 1955. He attended Rowan County Schools. He retired from Celanese Corp with 25 plus years. He loved playing music for the nursing homes to bring those people pleasure. He had a way about him that he could make seniors smile. He loved playing his drums and singing in church. He was a member of Rolling Thunder for over 20 years and was with the Lone Hickory Faith Riders for 14 years. He loved riding his Harley. It was his passion. He believed in helping others whenever he could. You could always count on him if you needed him. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jackie Cheeks. He married the love of his life on Feb. 14th, 2009, Beth Reavis Cheeks. They loved each other unconditionally and she will be lost because her soul mate went before her. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother Ricky (Ruth) Cheeks of Morganton. A best friend he called his brother Wayne (Joy) Moose of Yadkinville. His five children Aaron (Becky) Cheeks of Woodleaf, Kelly (Tim) Jackson of Linwood, Holly Cheeks, and Bryan Cheeks of Cleveland and Cherry (Joey) Frye of Mocksville. He had nine grandchildren: Delaney, Aubree, and Axel Cheeks of Woodleaf, Connor, Liam, Gabriel Jackson of Linwood, Logan (Natalie) Frye, Taylor Frye of Mocksville, Kelsey (Brandon) Cheeks of Mocksville. He also was blessed with four great grandchildren: Kylan, Kaison, and Brazlynn Lewis, Paisley Frye all of Mocksville. Three nephews: Brandon (Ashley) Cheeks of Mocksville, Derrick (Kristin) Cheeks of Mooresville, Dean (Angel) Cheeks of Morganton. Six great nieces and nephews: Deanndra (Austin) Huffman, Brianna (Tyler) Crain, Rylin Cheeks all of Morganton, Sammy, Mallon, Oaklei Cheeks of Mocksville, and Alexander Cheeks of Mooresville. Sisters-in-law, Lesa (Dwayne) Smith and Morgan (Travis) Smith. Axel loved his pawpaw he was the sunshine of Short’s life, his little mini. He loved spending time with him teaching him his bad habits. Memorials can be made to Cornerstone Family Ministry, 3132 Cornerstone Way, Yadkinville NC 27055 or Nazareth Children’s Home, 856 Crescent Rd., Rockwell, NC 28138 or Tribute to The Troops, 125 Ivybrook Dr., Statesville, NC 28625. The family will receive friends, Friday, April 4, 2025 from 1:00PM until 2:00PM at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A celebration of life service will follow the visitation at 2:00PM in the Gentry Family Chapel with Rev. Lenuel Lusk officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose cemetery in Mocksville. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Cheeks family.
