George Lee Keaton, 91, passed away on Saturday August 11, 2018 at SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin. George was born in Yadkin County on April 1, 1927; son of the late William Keaton and Betty Frances McBride Keaton. He was a original member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, where he helped build. He was born, raised and lived in the Wyo community most of his life and worked at Bassick-Sack in Winston-Salem for 17 years, owned and operated a small country store for a few years, as a side business, he turns the store into a garage and did mechanic work at night, while working all day in Winston-Salem. His business grew and he left Bassick – Sack to build a new garage and to do mechanic work full time. George retired from his business, Keaton’s Garage, at 75 years old. A celebration of life service will be conducted on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 11:00 am at Mt. Olive United Methodist Church with Rev. Dennis Almmons and Rev. Will Hamric officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service. George will lie in state 30 minutes prior to service. Survivors include his three children, Bill Huff (Kay), Donald Keaton (Diane) and Shirley Petree (Wayne); 13 grandchildren, 15 great - grandchildren and 3 great - great – grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Lou Keaton Long, 2 sisters, Etta Mae Keaton Groce and Frances Lee Keaton Bullins and 6 brothers, Early, John, Fletcher, Noah, Carlyle and James Keaton.
