Gwendolyn Brown Brown

Brown Boonville-  Mrs. Gwendolyn Brown Brown, 98, of Lyndale Drive passed away following a brief period of declining health.  She was born in East Bend, North Carolina on February 27, 1919.  In 1940, she married Glenn Brown and moved to North Oak Ridge Community of Boonville, North Carolina where they lived and celebrated 75 years of marriage in 2015.  Gwendolyn was a career homemaker and a talented seamstress and cook.  After her own family was grown, she cared for young children for several years.  As a senior adult, she served as the lunchtime cook at the Boonville Share Home.  She always had time to help a neighbor in need, shared her homemade cakes very freely with those around her, and was also known for her “snappy comebacks”.  She was also a member of Swan Creek Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Brown; by a son-in-law, Larry Hutchens; and by several brothers and sisters.  Surviving are  her three daughters, Dorothy Hutchens, Evelyn Hutchens (Wes), and Nelda Haines (Peter), nine grandchildren, Steve Hutchens, Sylvia Foster (Wesley), Wesley Hutchens (Susan), Robert Hutchens (Holly), Walter Hutchens (Doreen), Albert Hutchens (Alisha), Patricia Taylor (Anthony), Becki Peterson (Andy) and Matt Haines; 10 great-grandchildren, Samuel (Julianne), Andrew, Beth, Sydney, Layne, Thad and Ellie Hutchens, Haala Taylor, Taft and Kelcey Peterson; six step-great-grandchildren, Thomas, Timothy, and Erika Foster, Bryant, Aurora, and Aaron Taylor; a great-great-granddaughter, Emma Hutchens; a step-great-great-grandson, Michael Foster; a sister, Rosella Vance; and several nieces and nephews.  The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM Wednesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.  A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Brown will follow the visitation  at 3:00 PM Wednesday in the Gentry Family Chapel by Chaplain Mark Brown.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SECU Mountain Valley Hospice Care Center of Yadkin, 243 North Lee Avenue, Yadkinville, NC  27055.  Online condolences may be made to www.gentryfuneralservice.com.
